Learning from the SEED Demonstration of Child Accounts

Published:  December 19, 2008

Back in 2003, we partnered with a number of organiziations interested in savings and asset building to launch the SEED Demonstration which sought to test the potential of children's savings accounts. You can check out details of the effort here, but one of the original objectives was to create a foundation for an informed national policy. I've recently written up a paper reviews some of the lessons learned from the demonstration which have implications for federal policy. It includes a review of the policy development process that has led to a proliferation of child account proposals over the last five years and has created openings for future policy gains. Enjoy.
