CFPB Nominee Richard Cordray

Richard Cordray is headed to the Senate Banking Committee this afternoon for hearings on his nomination to be chief of the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau. Politico says that there could well be some fireworks at the nomination hearing.

When I was a youngster living here in DC, one organization paid me and a friend $10/hour to sit in line overnight outside of the Hart Senate Office Building so that we could guarantee their lobbyist good seats at an important hearing the next morning. We stayed up all night (you got hassled by the Capitol Police if you slept) with a fascinating assortment of bike messengers, professional "line sitters" and others so that someone else could sit in a room and see what happened. If I recall correctly, I think I made $100.

Nowadays, it's a lot easier to watch consequential events like this happen. All you have to do is click this link at about 2:30pm.
